In preparation for the interview, below are some general interview questions. Remember that all interview questions are really about the job, not about you personally.

General Tips:
Prepare your interview outfit.  Be sure it’s clean and pressed.  Make sure your hosiery, make sure is free of runs and matches the hem of your skirt or pants.

Learn as much as you can about the job and the company. Use the public library, anyone you know who works there, the company’s public relations department (for large companies), and the Internet.

Prepare your answers to frequently-asked questions:

Why do you want to work for this company?

What skills do you bring to the job?

What are your most important strengths?

What is your most significant weakness?

  Why should we hire you?

Prepare answers to “tough” questions, such as:

Why is there a gap in your employment record?

So, you’ve never held a job before?

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? Have you ever been in prison?

Prepare at least five questions to ask the interviewer, such as:

What are the organization’s most important goals this year?

What will be expected of the person who accepts this job?

Can you describe a typical day for the person in this job?

What types of training are provided?

Please describe the advancement opportunities in the company.

What is your management style (or that of my prospective supervisor)?

What changes do you see in the company’s future?
