The Invited Cover letter
The invited letter is one in which the employer has asked for a resume either over the phone or in the job postiong. In this format, you must focus on matching your qualifications to the advertised requirements of the position.
Example:
The employer is looking for someone with 5 years of Customer Service skills, Microsoft Word and Excel at an intermediate level.
You would answer these needs by stating an example like the following in your cover letter:
I have worked for ABC company for 5 years as a Customer Service Rep. In this position, I used Microsoft word to send out letters to my clients and I tracked their responses using MS Excel. I also gave my supervisor an allocation of my time using the date and time functions in Excel.
See?
This shows not only that you know how to use the programs, but also where, when and how long you used them.
